Suspension of bonuses, medical facilities: PSQCA employees launch nationwide pen-down strike
LAHORE:Employees of the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) have launched a nationwide pen-down strike in protest against the non-payment of biannual bonuses and suspension of medical facilities.
The situation escalated when Adeel Mushtaq, an employee at the Gujranwala office, became a victim of alleged management negligence. According to staff reports, Adeel's health deteriorated and he was brought to Lahore for treatment. However, due to unpaid dues by PSQCA management, panel hospitals refused service, citing suspended agreements. Consequently, he was shifted to Jinnah Hospital, where he passed away. Employees revealed that the protests have been ongoing since before Eidul Azha. During a pre-Eid visit to the Lahore office, Director Shakil Arshad had promised resolution of all issues within a week after Eidul Azha but despite his assurance, no progress has been made. Workers also report receiving threats of severe consequences from the management for continuing their protest.
Employees Union Chairman M Tariq stated, "Our homes are in darkness and instead of resolving issues, the management is pushing us towards further complications. The employees are united and determined to secure their rights." He further appealed to Federal Minister Khalid Magsi to intervene immediately, stating that withholding bonuses and healthcare is blatant exploitation of the workforce.
