Commercial Market Satellite Town: a blend of tradition and modernity
Commercial Market Satellite Town is a testament to Rawalpindi’s evolving commercial landscape. With a mix of traditional shops and modern retail outlets, it caters to a diverse clientele. The market’s strategic location and variety of offerings make it a popular destination for shoppers seeking both quality and convenience.
“Once a quiet cluster of family-run shops has transformed into one of the city’s most bustling commercial hubs. Yet, despite the march of progress, the market retains a nostalgic charm that keeps loyal patrons coming back,” says Farzana Ali.
“From decades-old bakeries selling traditional rusks and cakes wrapped in brown paper to sleek boutiques showcasing the latest in fashion trends, Commercial Market caters to every generation. The aroma of freshly cooked samosas mingles with the scent of new leather handbags and the faint whirr of salon hairdryers. It’s a sensory mosaic that reflects Rawalpindi’s changing face,” says Anwer Hussain.
“For many small business owners, this market has been a launching pad and an Economic Pulse Point. “My father opened this shop in 1978. We started with just kitchen utensils. Now, we also offer imported crockery and gift items. We have changed with the times, but our customers still ask for old-style enamel dishes their mothers used to buy,” says Rizwan Hasan, who runs a shop near car parking area.
“New cafes with Instagrammable interiors now stand beside stationery shops that have been here for generations. Young entrepreneurs are drawn to the market’s foot traffic, while older shopkeepers see it as a legacy to uphold,” says Syed Alamdar Hussain.
“The transition has not been without its challenges. There have been trials amid change. The rise of malls and e-commerce has threatened traditional footfall. Still, the market’s location, diversity, and loyal clientele have helped it endure,” says Fazal Naqvi.
“According to some lamenting shoppers, at times the parking is a nightmare, but I still prefer coming here. You get everything from mehndi cones to mobile accessories, and there’s always a good bargain to be had,” says Shumaila Zaidi.
