A sessions court has sentenced a mugger to seven-year imprisonment in a robbery case. Zubair was found guilty of robbing a woman of her mobile phone at gunpoint within the remits of the Korangi Industrial Area police station in 2023.

Additional Sessions Judge (East) Shahid Ali Memon observed that the prosecution succeeded in establishing the case against the accused by producing cogent, strong and coherent oral as well as documentary evidence and that the defense could not shatter it.

He sentenced the convict to seven years in prison for offence punishable under Section 397 (robbery or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the Pakistan Penal Code. "I must express my thoughts that nowadays, the street crimes are on high peak and public at large could not feel secure themselves at the hands of merciless muggers," the judge said.

"Thus under such circumstances, the release of accused based on minor or slightest contradictions would not be better for the society. Thus, the criminals who have created terror among the society and due to such kind of crimes, many innocents have even lost their lives and valuable belongings."

According to the prosecution, on November 9, 2023, the accused along with his accomplice had snatched a mobile phone from Benisha Gul, the complainant of the case, at gunpoint near Chapra Hotel, Sector 6/B, Mehran Town, Karachi and sped away.

It said that Zubair was arrested in an injured condition by Landhi police and a snatched phone was recovered from his possession. He disclosed that he along with his accomplice Waqas had robbed a woman and later met an accident due to high speed, resulting in the death of his accomplice.

The accused in his statement denied the prosecution case, stating that it was fabricated one lodged by the police to show their efficiency. He said nothing was recovered from him but the police had foisted the alleged robbed mobile phone upon him.
