The parking of motor vehicles alongside the entire stretch of II Chundrigar Road, from Shaheen Complex to Merewether Tower, has been banned under the directives of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to ensure free flow of vehicular traffic on one of the busiest arteries in downtown Karachi. A statement issued by the CM House on Tuesday said motor vehicles couldn't be parked along the adjacent Mohammad Bin Qasim Road and Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road till the SM Government Law College in District South of the city.
The traffic police officials informed the CM that vehicles couldn’t be parked on these main roads of the city and adjacent footpaths or pavements. The statement quoted the CM as warning that legal action would be taken against violators of these parking restrictions. The Railway Ground on II Chundrigar Road could be used for parking. He asked the traffic police to impound the motor vehicles using unauthorised decorative registration number plates.
The CM was told that a crackdown was underway against unregistered motor vehicles or vehicles using substandard registration plates. The traffic police allow only the use of registration plates as per the government-prescribed specifications for the purpose. The DIG Traffic told the CM that the Karachi Traffic Police had fully come into action to curb violations of the traffic rules in the city.
