ISLAMABAD: The military tension between Pakistan and India, which started about a month ago, has badly affected the Punjabi film industry in India. According to the experts of the Punjabi film industry, the production and release work of many big banner films of Chadde (West) Punjab (India), in which artists from Punjab (Pakistan) used to work, has stopped.

Punjabi films of Punjabi producers in the UK or Canada which used to get a good number of viewers in Pakistan have also suffered a setback. These films include “Chal Mera Putt 4” produced under the banner of Ridham Boys Entertainment and “Sardar Ji 3” by White Hills Studios. Film experts have claimed that apart from these films, five to six such Punjabi films were ready, while work on more than a dozen was going on. Questions have been raised on the release of these Punjabi films involving Pakistani actors. Now the question is, what has been the impact of stress on Indian Punjabi cinema? What will happen to it in the future? “The number of films involving Pakistani actors, which were supposed to be released in the coming days, is close to half a dozen. Nothing can be said about their release now.”

Punjabi film writer and director Chandra Kamboj claims that in the current situation, it does not seem that films with Pakistani artists will run in India and Indian artists in Pakistan. Chandra Kamboj has made Punjabi films like “Charitra”, “Panj Khaab” and “Drama Aale” also starring Pakistani artists. “In addition to the six films that have been made at present, there are more than a dozen films in which Pakistani actors have been cast and some of these films are either being shot or their editing work is still going on.”
