QUETTA: Unidentified miscreants attempted to blow up a gas pipeline using explosives in the Biddar Road area within the jurisdiction of the Dera Murad Jamali City Police Station, officials said on Saturday.
According to police, the perpetrators had planted 8 to 10 kilograms of explosive material underground in an effort to damage the infrastructure. The explosion caused partial damage to an old and inactive section of the gas pipeline, while the main 18-inch diameter pipeline supplying gas to Quetta remained intact.
Officials confirmed that the affected pipeline was not in use at the time, and no gas leakage occurred. Upon receiving reports of the incident, SSP Naseerabad Ghulam Sarwar Bheyo visited the scene and inspected the area.
Police, along with other concerned departments, have collected evidence from the site and launched a thorough investigation. Initial reports suggest that there were no casualties. Further inquiries are ongoing to ascertain the motive and identify those responsible.
