LAHORE:Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan said that Pakistan Army gave a strong response to Indian aggression and that Pakistani media showed exceptional responsibility during the war-like situation. During those critical days, the entire nation was united. Even those political parties that previously avoided dialogue stood behind the government and military when the country’s survival was at stake.
He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony held at the Lahore Press Club on Thursday on the theme of ‘Defence of the Nation and the Role of Media,’ organised by the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), the Lahore Press Club, and the Punjab Assembly Press Gallery Committee.
While addressing the ceremony, PA Speaker stated that the entire nation paid tribute to the scientists, the armed forces, and former PM Nawaz Sharif on the occasion of Youm-e-Takbeer. He also mentioned that the Punjab Assembly unanimously passed a resolution to grant the title of Field Marshal to Army Chief General Asim Munir.
He said incident of May 9 was not merely protests but direct attacks on national institutions. Twenty-nine military cantonments were targeted, and even my own residence was set on fire. Such actions are intolerable, and no compromise will be made on the sanctity of national institutions. He emphasised that economic stability is not possible without political stability.
In conclusion, Malik Ahmad Khan reiterated that when it came to revealing the truth, the role played by Pakistani media will always be remembered in history. The event was attended by President of the Lahore Press Club Arshad Ansari, President of PFUJ Naeem Hanif, President of the Punjab Assembly Press Gallery Khawaja Nasir, General Secretary of PFUJ Qamar ur Zaman Bhatti and other senior journalists.
