At least five workers fell unconscious after a fire broke out in a garments factory near Murtaza Chowrangi in the Landhi neighbourhood on Tuesday morning, destroying inventory worth millions of rupees.

The blaze erupted suddenly in a multi-storey factory located within the jurisdiction of the Awami Colony police station. The flames quickly intensified, prompting an immediate response from the police and rescue teams. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Fire Brigade and Rescue 1122 teams were also called in to assist with the firefighting operation.

According to a fire brigade spokesperson, the fire started on the third floor of the factory, which housed a large store and the cutting department. Thick smoke rapidly filled the premises, causing at least five workers to fall unconscious due to inhalation. The victims—Adnan, Younus, Zeeshan, Ghulam Hussain, and Zubair—were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Firefighters used smoke injectors to ventilate the building and remove toxic fumes. After nearly three hours of continuous efforts, the fire was brought under control. However, by that time, a significant quantity of valuable goods and raw materials had already been destroyed. A fire brigade spokesperson stated that the fire apparently broke out due to a short circuit.
