Ex-governor Kamaluddin Azfar passes away
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader and former Sindh governor Kamaluddin Azfar passed away on Monday. He was 87. According to PPP Sindh General Secretary Senator Waqar Mehdi, he had been ill for a long time. He breathed his last at a hospital in Karachi.
Azfar served as the Sindh governor during Benazir Bhutto’s second term as the prime minister, from 1995 to 1997. His funeral prayers will be offered at Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s shrine in Clifton after the Asr prayers on Wednesday (tomorrow).
Expressing sorrow over Azfar’s death, President Asif Ali Zardari offered his condolences to the bereaved family. He praised the ex-governor’s political services. He said seasoned politicians like him are an asset to the PPP. Azfar had rendered invaluable services to Sindh and the PPP, he added.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also expressed grief and sorrow over Azfar’s death. In his condolence message he said he shares the grief of the bereaved family. He said the PPP leader was a polite person having a superior level of political vision. Azfar was a loyal and old political fellow of Benazir’s, he added, and prayed for his soul.
Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori also offered his condolences over Azfar’s death, and prayed for his soul. He said that the former governor’s political and social services would be always remembered. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also expressed grief over Azfar’s death. In his condolence message he noted that the PPP leader was an intelligent officer. He recalled that Azfar served as finance minister due to his exceptional competence. He said that the ex-governor’s political services would be always remembered. He offered his condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the soul of the departed.
