PARACHINAR: The Kharlachi border in Kurram district has been reopened for trade with Afghanistan after a six-monthclosure.Speaking to the reporters at the Kharlachi border crossing, Pakistan’s border in-charge Major Moez and Afghanistan’s border affairs representative Maulana Javed confirmed that trade operations between the two countries have officially resumed from Friday.
Major Moez credited the successful reopening to coordinated efforts between the district administration, provincial government, security forces and tribal elders. “This step is in the best interest of both countries and will promote economic stability in the region,” he stated.
Customs Officer Alauddin said that reopening the border would help increase national
revenue and facilitate cross-border trade.Afghan official Maulana Javed expressed hope for improved bilateral relations, saying, “Afghanistan desires friendly and brotherly ties with its neighbors.
The reopening of the Kharlachi border is a positive step in that direction.”Tribal elders present at the border, including leader Islam Ali, welcomed the decision and said it would pave the way for the development of Kurram District. They highlighted that the move would benefit traders, labourers, and residents on both sides of the border.
Provincial Assembly member Ali Hadi Irfani also praised the government’s decision, calling it a “wise and timely move” amid regional tensions. “While eastern borders remain closed, reopening Kharlachi reflects the government’s commitment to regional stability and mutual economic growth,” he added.
