‘Prime suspect’ in journalist’s murder case killed in Katcha area

SUKKUR: The prime suspect in the murder of journalist Jan Mohammad Mahar, Sher Ali alias Shero Mehar, was shot dead along with his son during a police operation in Shikarpur’s Katcha area.
According to SSP Shikarpur Shahzeb Chachar, following receipt of information about the presence of the most wanted suspect Shero Mehar at the hideouts of Qadrani Jatoi’s dacoits in Katcha area in the limits of Bachal Bhayo police station, the entrance and exit points of the Katcha area were blocked and in the targeted operation Shero Mehar was killed. The suspect was carrying a head money of Rs5 million.
Sindh Home Minister Zia Lanjar and IGP Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon confirmed the neutralisation of Shero, saying justice had been done in the slain journalist’s case.
Sindh Energy Minister Nasir Hussain Shah also confirmed the suspect’s death during the police shootout, stating that authorities had tried to apprehend Shero alive but he was killed in the exchange of fire. It may be mentioned here that Jan Mohammad Mahar, the senior journalist and Sukkur bureau chief of a local news channel, was killed by unidentified assailants on August 14, 2024, in a targeted shooting while he was leaving his office in Sukkur.
