Nostalgic alumni reunion of Muslim School
Rawalpindi:A get-together of the former students of Government Muslim High School no. 1 (now Government Muslim Higher Secondary School no. 1), Saidpur Road, held in the main hall of the school.
A large number of former students (all sessions) from 1948 to the present of the school attended the alumni reunion. After the recitation of holy Quran and ‘naat’ nation anthem was played. The principal of the school addressed the gathering. Major (r) Shaheen Tirmizi, and old student and proud son of the founder principal late Syed Niaz Ahmed Tirmizi, gave opening remarks. Later several former students shared their experiences.
After the speeches, emotional moments were witnessed as the attendees visited their old classrooms and reminisced about their school days. This was the third alumni reunion. The first reunion took place in 2013 as part of the school’s centenary celebrations, and the second was held on March 7, 2020, due to the efforts of Dr Muaz Malik and his team
This third reunion, held after a gap of five years, owes its success to the tireless efforts of Dr. Muaz Malik, Dr. Jamal Nasir, Shahid Razi Khan, Dr. Shuja ud Din, Farooq Iqbal Razaki and Zia Ullah Sheikh. Thanks to their hard work, nearly 200 former students gathered to revive old memories.
Participants highly appreciated the event and expressed a desire for such reunions to be held annually, providing alumni with a chance to reconnect with their classmates and fellow students. The school principal proposed the formation of an alumni committee to contribute to the school’s welfare and development projects and to oversee their implementation. The suggestion was warmly welcomed, and it was decided that a committee would soon be established.
During the event, speakers not only shared fond memories but also praised the efforts of the organisers. It is pertinent to mention that the name of Muslim High School No. 1, was given by its founder principal late Syed Niaz Ahmed Tirmizi, after the partition of Sub-Continent in 1947.
