Cop martyred in attack on polio team in Waziristan

According to police, martyred constable was deployed on duty for polio vaccination campaign when incident occurred

AZAM WARSAK: A policeman embraced martyrdom while a terrorist was killed in an exchange of fire following an attack on police personnel guarding a polio vaccination team in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s South Waziristan district, Geo News reported.

According to police, the martyred constable was deployed on duty for the polio vaccination campaign when the incident occurred. The killed terrorist was found in possession of a rocket launcher, a machine gun, and two motorcycles. Authorities also recovered a national identity card, three ATM cards, and a smartphone from the militant.

Officials confirmed that a case has been registered at the CTD Azam Warsak police station. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned a terrorist attack on police personnel deployed to protect polio vaccination team in District South Waziristan.

The PM expressed deep grief over shahadat of police constable and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and for the bereaved family to bear the loss with fortitude, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release. The prime minister also expressed his resolve to bring terrorists to justice who had been inflicting harm on the lives and properties of innocent citizens. He further appealed the nation to counter such elements by resisting their pressure and reiterated to continue the polio campaign.
