CTD claims arresting militant
The Counter-Terrorism Department’s (CTD) investigation wing has claimed the arrest of a terrorist affiliated with the banned militant group Zainebiyoun Brigade on Saturday.
According to CTD officer DSP Chaudhry Safdar, the department’s investigation wing carried out an operation in the Soldier Bazaar area and apprehended Syed Moosa Rizvi, alias Kamran, son of Syed Nafees Abbas Rizvi. The suspect had been in hiding for an extended period fearing arrest.
During the interrogation, the suspect confessed to his involvement in multiple incidents of target killings and assassination attempts. He revealed his involvement in a September 5, 2023 sectarian-motivated attack in the Taimuria area where he, along with accomplices, shot and killed Qari Khurram and injured three others — Madni, Dad Shabbir and Naveed Khan.
The officer said that the suspect had also confessed to the September 20, 2023 killing of Sher Khan in Malir’s Memon Goth area as well as the November 22, 2023 shooting of Jannat Gul, son of Saadat Khan, within the jurisdiction of the Sachal police station, in which the victim was injured.
Additionally, on November 13, 2024, the suspect allegedly facilitated the targeted killing of Syed Abu Hashim in Samanabad. The CTD stated that the arrested terrorist was an important member of the Zainebiyoun Brigade and had been directly and indirectly involved in several sectarian attacks in the city.
He had been receiving regular financial support from the terrorist organisation for carrying out such activities. Several cases against him, including those involving terror financing and other criminal charges, were under investigation at the CTD police station leading to his arrest.
