Bangladesh, Ireland look to strengthen positions
LAHORE: Bangladesh will face Ireland in the 7th match of the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2025 on Sunday at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Both teams will be looking to strengthen their campaigns as they chase a spot in the World Cup later this year in India.
Bangladesh, sitting at the top of Group A with three wins, have been in stellar form and will aim to extend their dominance. On the other hand, Ireland, currently second in Group A with two wins and one loss, will look to bounce back from earlier setbacks and challenge the formidable Bangladeshi side.
Bangladesh’s confidence is buoyed by their consistent performances in the group stage. Captain Nigar Sultana has been their standout player, amassing 174 runs at an impressive strike rate of 108, including 23 boundaries. Supported by Murshida Khatun, who has scored 134 runs with a strike rate of 102, Bangladesh’s batting lineup looks well-set to pose a challenge.
In the bowling department, Salma Khatun has been the standout performer with 6 wickets at an average of 10 and an economy rate of 4.43. Her accuracy, combined with the pressure created by left-arm spinner Marufa Akter, who is known for her discipline and wicket-taking ability, makes Bangladesh’s bowling attack a formidable unit. Nigar Sultana, the captain’s composure and ability to anchor the innings will be critical while Salma Khatun, the experienced all-rounder will play a pivotal role with the ball. Marufa Akter, a key bowler, who thrives on creating pressure with economical spells.
Ireland, despite their strong performances earlier in the tournament, will be looking to iron out weaknesses, particularly in their batting lineup. Gaby Lewis, their top scorer with 121 runs at a strike rate of 137, will be key to giving Ireland a strong start.
Orla Prendergast, with her all-round abilities and 85 runs at a strike rate of 110, will also play a crucial role.
