FIR against Muneeb Indhar was registered for allegedly using derogatory language against President on social media
KARACHI: A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against a journalist, Muneeb Indhar, at Dadlo Police Station in Pano Akil, Sukkur under the controversial Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), sparking strong condemnation from the journalist unions, lawyers and civil society.
The FIR against Muneeb Indhar was registered for allegedly using derogatory language against President Asif Ali Zardari on social media. The FIR accuses the journalist of using derogatory language against President Asif Ali Zardari on his Facebook account.
Following the registration of the case, the police raided the house of Muneeb Indhar and took away his brother Abdul Qadeer.
In an official statement, the Sukkur Union of Journalists, lawyer leader Advocate Jamal Nasir Bullo, social activist Sattar Zangejo, Nadeem Bozdar, Taj Rind, Professor Sajjad Soomro and others condemned the registration of the FIR and described it as an attack on the free speech and freedom of expression.
