IT to help improve police working: CM

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting here Tuesday which reviewed the steps taken for reforms in police system and change in thana culture through information technology.
The chief minister said that Punjab police had completed the historic work of computerisation of the record of every police officer and official and the use of modern technology for changing thana culture was commendable. He said the entire data about the police officers and officials was available at the pressing of a button. He said that feeding of the data of all officers with the past record in human resource management information system was a big achievement.
According to a handout, Shahbaz Sharif congratulated Provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, Inspector General police, CCPO Lahore and the police team working on the project. He thanked Punjab Information Technology Board Chairman and his team for their cooperation with regard to human resource management information system. He said that update data about 1.5 lakh police force would be available as a result of computerisation of the record.
He appreciated the performance of police with regard to computerisation of record of police force and said that it would help improve efficiency of police besides giving field posting to the best human resource. The chief minister said that modern reception desks had been set up in 200 police stations of Punjab while reception desks would soon be set up in all police stations of the province. He said all-out resources would be provided to police for this purpose. He said that setting up of reception desks was an important step towards change in thana culture and reforms in police system.
The chief minister said that establishment of reception desks in police stations would help in registration of complaints and FIRs. He said that reception desks were operating in 200 police stations of 13 districts of the province.
Shahbaz Sharif said that reception desks were of vital importance for changing the image of Punjab police while effective monitoring of reception desks was also essential. He said that appointment of sub-inspectors recruited through Punjab Public Service Commission would result in change in thana culture. He said that use of information technology would improve efficiency of police and restore the confidence of people in police force. He said that maximum use of information technology was of vital importance for improvement of police system and Punjab police had taken a lead in this regard. Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was also given a briefing on human resource management information system and setting up of reception desks in police stations.
Compensation: Shahbaz Sharif has expressed sorrow and grief over the loss of human lives due to collapse of the roof of a house in Azam Garden Lahore and sympathised with the bereaved family. He announced financial assistance of Rs 500,000 for the heirs of each deceased person. The CM directed the administration to provide best treatment facilities to the injured people.
