JIT grills Aleema Khan over ‘social media propaganda’
JIT had issued notices to multiple individuals, demanding they clarify their positions regarding ongoing probe
ISLAMABAD: Aleema Khan, sister of former prime minister Imran Khan, appeared before a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) on Wednesday to respond to allegations of involvement in negative propaganda disseminated on social media, according to the sources.
The investigation, conducted under Section 30 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016, is being led by Inspector General of Police (IGP), Islamabad, Ali Nasir Rizvi. The JIT had issued notices to multiple individuals, demanding they clarify their positions regarding the ongoing probe.
The five-member JIT, comprising IGP Islamabad, director of Cybercrime Circle of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and deputy inspector general (operations) of Islamabad, questioned Aleema Khan for over two-and-a-half hours.
Sources said she cooperated with the investigation. However, she reportedly hesitated when faced with specific questions concerning negative propaganda directed against the state and its institutions.
The JIT is expected to make a determination within the next few days regarding Aleema Khan’s potential involvement in relaying messages from Imran Khan to PTI bloggers and social media activists residing in various locations, the sources concluded.
