LAHORE : For the first time in educational history of the province, 300,000 teachers from Punjab will participate in sports competitions starting from April 15. These competitions, being organised by the School Education Department (SED) will continue till April 19. This time, various sports competitions have been organised for teachers, including cricket, tug-of-war, badminton, athletics, and 400-meter race.
Successful teachers at the district level will get the opportunity to participate in competitions at the divisional level. The final sports competitions will be organised in Lahore, where the provincial education minister will give prizes to the teachers who secure positions.
According to the SED sources, the aim of these sports competitions is to improve the mental and physical development of teachers so that they can perform their teaching duties better. To a query they said that the province is home to over 52,000 schools, adding there are approximately 338,000 teachers in Punjab. The province has Punjab has a student population of around 10.8 million.
Meanwhile, it is worth mentioning here that the first edition of the World Teacher Games is being held in the ‘Region Sud’ in France, the event is taking place from May 5th to 10th, 2025. Over 1,000 teachers from over 35 countries will participate in team challenges like beach rugby, swimming relays in the sea, trail running, and air badminton.
It's a chance for teachers to network, exchange ideas, and learn new teaching strategies through workshops designed to enhance student engagement in physical education.
