Case under PECA: PTI activist involved in uploading ‘negative posts’ arrested

RAWALPINDI: In a substantial move against misinformation and negative propaganda, the Rawalpindi Police have registered the first case under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
The case was filed following a social media post that was allegedly based on misinformation. The accused, found involved in uploading negative posts on social media, was activist of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the police sources said. According to a police spokesman, the suspect, identified as Muhammad Rehan, was arrested for posting inappropriate content online. He has been taken into custody and transferred to jail. Law enforcement authorities emphasised that the misuse of freedom of expression to spread misinformation or negative propaganda will not be tolerated.
The police have reiterated that any social media post containing misinformation or content deemed against the state and public order will be subject to strict action under the Electronic Crimes Act. Authorities have assured that ensuring the safety of citizens and maintaining law and order remain their top priorities. Citizens have been urged to exercise caution while using social media. Officials warned that legal action will be taken against individuals found responsible for spreading misleading information or engaging in negative propaganda online.
The Rawalpindi police have reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the law and safeguarding the well-being of the public by taking necessary steps to counter digital misinformation.
