ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is seeking to deepen industrial ties with Japan, with a focus on biogas, ethanol fuel integration and electric vehicles, as part of its push towards sustainable transportation.

Haroon Akhtar Khan, special assistant to the prime minister on industries and production, met with Pak Suzuki CEO Hiroshi Kawamura on Tuesday to discuss expanding automotive collaboration and investment opportunities.

Khan underscored Pakistan’s interest in joint industrial ventures and praised Pak Suzuki’s plans to establish a biogas plant at Manga Mandi, calling it a key step in advancing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s “Uraan” vision for eco-friendly mobility.

“Pakistan offers a significant growth market for Pak Suzuki and other Japanese firms,” Khan said, adding that localisation of auto parts manufacturing remains a policy priority.

The talks also covered technical cooperation on ethanol fuel compatibility, increased local content in production, and potential partnerships in electric vehicle projects. Both sides emphasised leveraging clean energy solutions and technological innovation to enhance trade and industrial links.

Kawamura, congratulating Khan on his new role, reaffirmed Pak Suzuki’s commitment to strengthening Pakistan-Japan economic relations.
