Woman’s plea against conviction adjourned

LAHORE:On Friday, The Lahore High Court adjourned the appeal against the conviction of a resident of Bedian Road, Lahore. The case was scheduled for hearing Friday before Mr Justice Ali Zia Bajwa at the court’s principal seat.
Asiya Bibi was arrested in 2021 on a complaint filed under Section 295-B of the Pakistan Penal Code. On March 20, 2024, a trial court in Lahore found her guilty and sentenced her accordingly.
Speaking to The News, her counsel, Advocate Sarmad Ali, emphasised that Asiya Bibi’s conviction should be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law. 'She has the right to appeal as per law. The Constitution of Pakistan guarantees inmates easy access to justice,' he stated.
The next date for the hearing is yet to be announced.
