ISTANBUL: One of the leading independent media outlets in Turkiye, news site Gazete Duvar, decided to shut because of financial constraints caused by changes in Google´s search algorithm and high inflation, its founder announced on Wednesday.
“With Google´s algorithm changes, we started to suffer serious revenue losses, which we expect to continue,” founder Vedat Zencir said in a farewell column published on Gazete Duvar´s website.
“In addition, inflationary economic policies and crises in Turkey have almost doubled publishing costs in recent years,” he wrote.
“Under the current circumstances, as the management, we might not have been able to bear (asking additional) sacrifices... from our colleagues who are already working in this difficult and risky profession.”
