Businessman robbed of Rs5m in broad daylight
Islamabad:A daring daylight robbery took place within the jurisdiction of Sabzi Mandi Police Station, where armed robbers intercepted a businessman’s car at gunpoint and fled after snatching Rs5 million cash.
The incident occurred in Sector I-10/4, street 24, a bustling commercial and residential area. According to eyewitnesses, two armed men on a motorcycle targeted a vehicle, swiftly carrying out the heist before escaping.
The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed for security reasons, was allegedly carrying a large sum of money, making him a prime target for criminals. Following the robbery, SSP (Operations), along with SP, SDPO, SHO and other relevant senior police officers, rushed to the crime scene to assess the situation. The police cordoned off the area and launched an immediate search operation to track down the culprits but could not get the robbers. Forensic teams were called to collect evidence, while CCTV footage from nearby buildings is being analysed to identify the suspects.
"We are utilising all available resources, including intelligence gathering and digital surveillance, to apprehend the criminals involved in this heinous act," said a senior police official. Islamabad has witnessed a recent surge in street crimes, with criminals targeting citizens in broad daylight, particularly in commercial districts.
Over the past three months, several high-value robberies have been reported across the capital. Law enforcement agencies have been directed to increase patrols and strengthen security measures, especially in areas prone to criminal activity.
Police officials are urging citizens to remain cautious while carrying large sums of money and report any suspicious activity. Authorities have assured that swift action will be taken against those responsible, and they are working on new measures to curb rising incidents of armed robberies.
Meanwhile, the business community and residents of Islamabad have expressed concern over the deteriorating law-and-order situation, demanding stricter policing and enhanced security measures to prevent such crimes in the future. For any information regarding the suspects, citizens are encouraged to contact the nearest police station or report anonymously via the Islamabad Police helpline.
