Tarnol shootout: Police arrest two notorious dacoits
Islamabad : In a late-night crackdown on criminal gangs operating in the federal capital, Islamabad Police engaged in an intense shootout with four armed dacoits in Tarnol, resulting in the arrest of two injured suspects, while their accomplices managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
The incident occurred during a routine police checkpoint on Tarnol Link Road when officers signaled two suspicious motorcyclists to stop. Instead of complying, the suspects opened fire indiscriminately, prompting the police to retaliate.
“Despite facing a hail of bullets, our officers stood their ground and successfully apprehended two dacoits while ensuring the safety of civilians and law enforcement personnel,” the police spokesperson stated.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Muhammad Adeel, a notorious dacoit wanted in 42 criminal cases across Punjab, and Zeeshan, a repeat offender with 27 registered cases, including dacoities, house robberies, and street crimes. They were found in possession of two 30-bore pistols and two stolen motorcycles.
Meanwhile, a search operation is underway to track down the two accomplices who managed to flee. Police suspect they are hiding in nearby localities, and teams have been deployed to ensure their swift arrest.
The shootout comes at a time when Islamabad and Rawalpindi are experiencing a surge in street crimes, including mobile snatching, vehicle theft, and armed robberies. In response, law enforcement agencies have been conducting frequent patrols and intelligence-based operations to dismantle criminal networks. Following the incident, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi commended the bravery and swift action of the officers involved.
“Our officers displayed remarkable courage in the face of danger. Their dedication to protecting the citizens of Islamabad will not go unnoticed,” said the IGP.
To acknowledge their efforts, commendation awards have been announced for the police team involved in the operation.
In the aftermath of the shootout, Islamabad Police have intensified night patrols in high-crime areas and established additional checkpoints at key entry and exit points. Surveillance has been enhanced through CCTV monitoring, undercover operations, and intelligence-sharing with other law enforcement agencies.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police helpline.
With Islamabad Police tightening their grip on criminal elements, this latest encounter serves as a strong warning: crime will not go unpunished.
