Gilani issues production orders for PTI senators
Senator Ejaz Chaudhry’s production order was issued in mid-January this year
ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Friday issued production orders for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf lawmakers Ejaz Chaudhry and Aon Abbas for the current Senate session.
Issued on behalf of the chairman Senate, the orders carry signatures of the Senate Secretary Syed Hasnain Haider and mention Ijaz Chaudhry, having been incarcerated in Kot Lakhpat Jail and Aon Abbas in Bahawalpur police custody.
“…Chairman Senate considers necessary the presence of Senators Ejaz Ahmad Chaudhary and Aon Abbas during remaining sittings of the current 347th session of the Senate of Pakistan, and next sitting of which is scheduled to be held on Saturday, the 8th March, 2025, at 11:30a.m., in the Parliament House, Islamabad,” the orders read.
“Therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by rule 84 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Senate, 2012, the Chairman Senate has been pleased to summon Senator Ejaz Chaudhary and Aon Abbas to attend the remaining sittings of the said session at the Parliament House.”
He directed for production of both legislators at the commencement of “each sitting of the current session before the Sergeant-at-Arms, Senate Secretariat, Islamabad, who shall, after the conclusion of the sitting, deliver him into your custody accordingly”.
Law Minister Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar confirmed in the Senate on the opening day of the new session that Aon Abbas had been picked for allegedly illegally hunting gazelle in Cholistan.
Leader of Opposition Syed Shibli Faraz had raised the matter on the floor of the House and when it was confirmed he was in police custody, he had called for issuance of his production order.
Senator Ejaz Chaudhry’s production order was issued in mid-January this year, but he was not produced in the House and since then, Chairman Gilani has not presided over any sitting of the Senate.
