NOWSHERA: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz provincial president and Federal Minister Amir Muqam on Saturday ruled out the possibility of midterm elections, saying the incumbent government would complete its five-year term.

“Holding midterm elections may be the wish of some parties, but we cannot prevent any party from having such desires. These wishes will remain theirs as a means to stay relevant in politics, and they will continue giving deadlines,” he told reporters after addressing a condolence reference at Darul Uloom-e-Haqqania.

Condemning the suicide attack at Darul Uloom-e-Haqqania, he termed the martyrdom of Maulana Hamidul Haq Haqqani as a great tragedy. He conveyed his condolences on behalf of himself, PMLN’s central president Nawaz Sharif, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Muqam said the government would complete its five-year term, and 2029 would be the final election year.

He said that the entire nation had seen how those who tried to seize Islamabad damaged Pakistan’s reputation. He said the people had also seen the previous deadline given by them. The government will complete its five-year term, and 2029 will be the final election year.

Regarding the Grand Alliance, he said that it was merely a mix of different interests, with each party having its own agenda. The government, he added, faced no threat from opposition parties, saying their alliance was simply a way to keep themselves entertained.

On the expansion of the federal cabinet, Muqam said the addition of ministers would enhance the efficiency of these ministries, which was a core agenda of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

He criticized certain political parties for engaging in theatrics to keep their workers occupied and remain relevant in the media.
