PESHAWAR: The provincial government has decided to withdraw baseless and politically motivated cases registered after the events of May 9.

Prosecutors have been tasked with reviewing these cases and have been directed to examine them.

Additional Advocate General Muhammad Inam Yousafzai said that any baseless and politically motivated First information reports (FIRs) registered in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would be withdrawn. He said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister has issued instructions to review and withdraw all illegal cases across the province. The AAG clarified that cases that did not hold merit will be quashed, which would also reduce the burden on courts.

He said that this decision was not limited to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and workers but any individual facing baseless charges would have their case withdrawn.

District prosecutors have received instructions from the Home Department to review cases based on merit.

He said that all relevant prosecutors would examine cases on merit, and if there was no evidence against the accused, the case would be quashed.
