Maulana Hamid had consistently opposed suicide bombings

NOWSHERA: Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq Haqqani, the chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami (JUIS) and deputy administrator of Darul Uloom Haqqania who was martyred in a suicide attack on Friday, was born on May 26, 1968, in Akora.

Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq received his early education at Darul Uloom Haqqania, where he completed his Dars-e-Nizami and became a distinguished scholar of Hadith and the Quran. He also successfully passed the Wifaq-ul-Madaris examinations and obtained a bachelor’s degree in secular education. He served as a teacher at Darul Uloom Haqqania and played an active role in politics under the leadership of his father and renowned Islamic scholar and politician Maulana Sami-ul-Haq.

In 2002, he was elected as a Member of the National Assembly on the ticket of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) and served in the country’s 12th National Assembly from November 16, 2002, to October 10, 2007, before resigning in protest.

Following the assassination of his father, he became the head of JUI-S and also led the Milli

Yakjehti Council. Known for his humble and compassionate nature, he was widely respected across various political and religious circles.

Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq strongly condemned all forms of terrorism and consistently opposed suicide bombings, attacks on religious institutions, and the killing of innocent people. He was among the scholars who signed a declaration labeling suicide bombings as un-Islamic. He was a staunch advocate for Khatm-e-Nabuwwat and the enforcement of Shariah.

In addition to his religious and political commitments, he managed a small business to support his household. Just a few days before his martyrdom, he attended a security meeting in Kurram district, invited by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, to discuss the law and order situation in Parachinar.On February 28, after offering Friday prayers in the front row, he was heading home when he fell victim to a suicide bombing.
