Sindh to boost fact-checking mechanism to tackle fake news
The Sindh government on Tuesday agreed to strengthen the fact-checking mechanism to prevent the spread of fake news on social media, along with the Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the Korangi Association of Trade & Industry, the North Karachi Association of Trade & Industry and other business organisations in the city.
A meeting of the Sub-Committee on Information of the Business Facilitation & Coordination Committee, chaired by Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, discussed media-related issues faced by business owners, and the impact of fake news on business and the economy, and deliberated on formulating an effective strategy to address these challenges.
Memon said the spread of fake news can have serious consequences for business and the economy. He emphasised that the Sindh government is committed to taking effective measures to tackle the challenge of fake news and misinformation to protect the interests of business owners. He said responsible journalism and cooperation of the relevant parties are essential to combat fake news. He also emphasised that links between business owners and the information department must be further strengthened to prevent the spread of misinformation.
