Islamabad : The Floral Art Society (FAS) Magnolia Chapter held an outdoor meeting at a member’s farm. The meeting started with the recitation of Holy Quran by Kehkashan’s Khwaja; president Waqar Boolani welcomed the attendees, while Yasmeen Salman introduced the demonstrators, two talented members, Hina Kamran and Samina Tariq.
Hina, a botanist and an amateur floral artist, taught the Tatami technique which refers to a reed structure that can be woven into a mat or canopy to create a canvas for arranging flowers. She used stems of weeping willow; umbrella sticks; bottle brush branches and midelino sticks. Five beautiful structures were made to incorporate the technique in different styles, after which the technique was practiced by the members to see what they had learned.
Samina is an expert in macrame weaving, so she created three floral exhibits using the technique, using different colours of rope and natural jute, explaining the steps in detail and providing members with ropes and sticks to learn and practice. Both demonstrations were interesting and taught something new and interesting to those who attended.
In conclusion, the host was presented a small token of gratitude; birthday girls were given gifts and the meeting ended on a happy note while enjoying refreshments and lively conversation.
