130 bunkers demolished in Kurram so far: official
Parachinar residents have expressed concerns over severe shortage of fuel, gas, and medicine
PARACHINAR: About 130 bunkers have been dismantled as the implementation of the peace agreement in Kurram district continues.
“About 130 bunkers have been demolished so far, and a 3,000-foot-long trench in the lower part of Kurram has been filled using heavy machinery,” said an official. The officials of the district administration said that efforts were also underway to renovate Bagan Bazaar in Lower Kurram, while financial aid was being provided to individuals affected by past conflicts and terrorism. Authorities have reported an improvement in the overall security situation following the agreement. In Upper Kurram, trade activities are resuming, with 853 trucks carrying essential goods reaching Parachinar and surrounding villages. Additionally, a helicopter service is in operation to transport patients and overseas Pakistanis to Peshawar.
Meanwhile, the residents in Parachinar have expressed concerns over the severe shortage of fuel, gas, and medicine. With schools and colleges set to reopen soon, citizens fear another academic year may be lost if fuel supplies are not restored.
Local business leader Haji Imdad said that the current supply of 50 to 60 trucks is insufficient for a population of 500,000. He urged the government to increase the number of daily convoys and ensure safe and permanent access to transportation routes as per the terms of the peace agreement.
