Rs37bn USAID projects in KP halted
Adviser to Chief Minister on Finance confirms USAID stopped funds, and situation will become clear over time
PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa receives significant international financial assistance, with 56 projects funded by 12 donors through grants and loans.
The total portfolio is Rs796.65 billion, with Rs130.59 billion allocated for the current fiscal year (CFY). The loans amount to Rs736.52 billion, while grants account for Rs60.13 billion. However, the total releases for the current financial year include Rs123.65 billion in loans and Rs7.43 billion for grant-funded projects. Following President Trump’s announcement, USAID projects of Rs37,620 million, have been halted in the province.
Adviser to the Chief Minister on Finance, Muzzamil Aslam, has confirmed that USAID has stopped the funds, and the situation will become clear over time. This will affect ongoing projects, including the FATA infrastructure project, which covers power, roads, buildings, water, and the solarization of water supply schemes. Another affected project is the conversion of 191,000 acres in the Gomal Zam Dam area to modern irrigation practices.
The official documents revealed that the assistance covers 13 vital sectors, focusing on sustainable development, infrastructure, and social uplift projects in the province.
The KP official data revealed that 12 donors are contributing to the province’s development efforts. The Asian Development Bank has 17 loan-funded projects worth Rs393,807 million, with Rs46,938 million allocated for the current year. The World Bank has financed 14 projects through loans amounting to Rs302.661 million, with Rs73.420 million allocated for this year. USAID funded three grant projects totaling Rs37,620 million, with Rs3,094 million allocated for the CFY. KFW Development Bank funded seven grant projects valued at Rs15,304 million, with Rs2,489 million allocated. IFAD has one loan worth Rs17,567 million, with Rs 1890 million allocated. The Saudi Fund for Development funded two loan projects worth Rs18,714 million, with Rs1,006 million allocated.
The Italian government has two loan-funded projects totaling Rs3,773 million, with Rs400 million allocated. China-funded one grant project worth Rs2,265 million, with Rs1,499 million allocated for the CFY.
KOICA has given one grant project worth Rs1,980 million, with Rs 200 million allocated. UNDP has funded three grant projects valued at Rs1,250 million but has not allocated any funds for the current year. UNICEF has two grant projects worth Rs675 million, with Rs150 million allocated. FCDO has two grant projects totaling Rs1,035 million.
