Bangladesh naval chief holds meetings with Pakistan’s armed forces leadership
Khawaja Asif welcomes visiting dignitary and says Pakistan greatly values its relations with Bangladesh
ISLAMABAD: Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan, Chief of Naval Staff of Bangladesh Navy, on Friday called on Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf.
Khawaja Asif welcomed the visiting dignitary and said Pakistan greatly valued its relations with the brotherly country Bangladesh. Nazm conveyed a goodwill gesture from the people of Bangladesh and expressed Bangladesh’s aspiration for vibrant defence cooperation between the two countries, especially navies. The discussion was focused on expanding bilateral defence collaboration covering all domains.
Nazm later called on Sahir Shamshad at the Joint Staff Headquarters, Rawalpindi. The discussion centered on evolving regional environment, mutual strategic interests including maritime collaboration and explored ways to enhance bilateral defence cooperation. Both military leaders underscored the importance of collaboration in promoting peace and stability. The visiting dignitary lauded the professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces and acknowledged their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
Earlier, upon arrival at the Joint Staff Headquarters, a smartly turned-out tri-services contingent presented the guard of honour. Nazm also called on General Asim Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ), Rawalpindi. During this second high-level visit by a Bangladesh armed forces officer in the recent past, both dignitaries engaged in discussions on matters of mutual interest, regional security environment and avenues for enhanced bilateral defence and security cooperation. Nazm commended Pakistan’s significant contributions to regional peace and stability and appreciated the upcoming Multinational Maritime Exercise Aman 2025 and Aman Dialogue.
