Naqvi orders full polio vaccine coverage for under-fives
Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has instructed all the deputy commissioners (DCs) to ensure that every child under the age of five receives polio drops as part of the efforts to eradicate the crippling disease from Pakistan.
Naqvi emphasised that this is a national responsibility, and urged everyone to contribute to the success of the polio eradication campaign. During his visits to different districts of the city, including the Central and Malir districts, he met with DCs, health officials, and parents who had previously refused to get their children vaccinated.
He highlighted the importance of vaccination in preventing lifelong disabilities, and encouraged parents to have their children vaccinated. He also directed the DCs to enlist the support of opinion and community leaders to gain the cooperation of parents, ensuring no child is left unvaccinated during the ongoing polio campaign.
DC briefed the commissioner about the ongoing polio drive in his jurisdiction. Naqvi issued instructions to further enhance and strengthen the polio campaign in the district. He also directed all the DCs to provide him daily updates on the polio drive. Regarding parents refusing vaccination, he stressed the need for follow-ups to ensure that no child in District Central remains unvaccinated.
