Journalists observe black day against controversial Peca
The journalist fraternity observed a black day in Karachi on the call of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists and hoisted black flags at Karachi Press Club. Journalists tied black bands around their arms and recorded their protest.
Addressing a protest demonstration held outside the Karachi Press Club, KUJ General Secretary Sardad Liaquat, PFUJ Treasurer Lala Asad Pathan, Former Secretary General PFUJ Mazhar Abbas, Member FEC Ayub Jan Sirhindi, and former president Karachi Press Club Imtiaz Khan Faran said that the controversial Peca bill passed to prevent electronic crimes is a direct attack on freedom of the press in the country. They said the government has hastily enacted this legislation and has seriously violated rules and regulations.
They said the “illegal steps” the government has taken have caused great concern among journalists and people of all walks of life. The speakers said that some political parties claiming to uphold democratic traditions have proven their contradictions in their words and deeds.
