UK police issue threat alert to Nawaz family
Sources say detectives from Scotland Yard visited Avenfield flats and informed about threat level and issued guidelines
LONDON: Members of Nawaz Sharif’s family in London have been warned by the local police that they face serious threat of a violent attack from the unidentified individuals, according to trusted sources who shared the alert is based on intelligence reports.
Trusted security sources shared with Geo News that the West Midlands Police informed the London Metropolitan Police that the family members of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif have a serious threat. The sources said that the threat alert was generated by the West Midlands police through its intelligence monitoring system.
Detectives from Scotland Yard visited Avenfield flats and informed the family about the threat level and issued guidelines to the family, said the sources. The West Midlands Police was acting on the credible intelligence and informed the family about the serious level of danger, shared the sources.
The police has told the Sharif family members to stay vigilant and exercise caution in their movements, according to information. The police has not revealed where the threat came from and who are the people involved. “It cited the West Midlands police as the source of intelligence,” said the sources. The police, it’s understood, told the family that it has already done its job of what it needed to do to counter the threat.
Two weeks ago, activist Gulfam Hussain was arrested by the Scotland Yard from outside Avenfield flats. He is now on bail but barred from going near the Avenfield flats. Gulfam was arrested by the police on a compliant made by Khurram Butt, PMLN Youth Wing leader in the UK. The sources shared that the West Midlands police acted after a Birmingham-based group of TikTokers issued threats of violent attacks during live broadcasts. The sources said that Gulfam Hussain’s arrest is linked to the same threat alert as he visited the apartments in person but the others made threats only on TikTok. The sources said that the police is investigating the matter in light of the videos it has. Gulfam Hussain has denied issuing threats.
Most members of the Sharif family no more live in London and have already relocated to Pakistan. After spending nearly three years in exile, Nawaz Sharif returned to Pakistan in November 2023. Hussain Nawaz lives almost full time in Saudi Arabia but his wife and children live in London. Hasan Nawaz Sharif lives full time in Lahore where he is assisting his father.
Nawaz Sharif’s youngest daughter and Ali Dar’s wife lives in Lahore. Ali Dar, who lived in London throughout the time Mr Sharif was here in exile the last time, packed up around eight months ago and lives full time in Lahore. Nawaz Sharif’s grandson and Hussain Nawaz’s son Zayd Hussain got married in Lahore last month. Sharif family members didn’t return calls.
