4 get death penalty for blasphemy
Court awards total of 80 years life imprisonment and fine of Rs5.2m to accused under various sections
RAWALPINDI: Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Tariq Ayub Friday sentenced four accused to death for blaspheming the holy figures, including Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), his companions and holy mothers of the faithful, and uploading blasphemous content on the social media.
The court also awarded a total of 80 years life imprisonment and a fine of Rs5.2 million to the accused under various sections.
On October 22, 2022, the FIA Cyber Crime registered a case (number 102) under Section 11 of the PECA Act along with Sections 295A, 295B, 295C, 298A, 109 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of Shiraz Ahmed Farooqi, in which four people were named as the accused.
The accused faced the charge of uploading blasphemous content on Facebook through different IDs.
On completion of the trial, the court sentenced the four accused to death under 295C and a fine of Rs1 million each. In case of non-payment of fine, the accused will have to undergo an additional 6/6 months of imprisonment.
The court sentenced the four accused to life imprisonment under 295B, 10 years of imprisonment under 295A and a fine of Rs1 million each.
In case of non-payment of fine, the accused will have to undergo an additional six months of imprisonment.
Similarly, the court sentenced the four accused to three years of imprisonment under 298A and a fine of Rs1 million each.
A fine of Rs100,000 per person was imposed, while under Section 11 of the PECA Act, a sentence of seven years imprisonment and a fine of Rs1 lakh per person was imposed.
