No government writ in KP, says Fazl
He accuses certain political elements of initially opposing establishment but later engaging in talks with it
MARDAN: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUIF) chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman on Sunday said there was no writ of government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and opposed the use of force to resolve the Kurram issue.
Talking to reporters after addressing a gathering at Jamia Islamiya Babuzai in Katlang, he said that it was unclear who was running the government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, adding that the same situation prevailed at the federal level, where he claimed “incompetent people” were in power.
He accused certain political elements of initially opposing the establishment but later engaging in talks with it.
Highlighting the ideological foundation of Pakistan, the Maulana said the country was created under the slogan of Islam, for which the Ulema rendered unmatched sacrifices. He said the JUIF was committed to resolving issues through dialogue, adding that constructive discussions can help overcome differences and create a conducive political environment.
The JUIF chief accused the provincial government of corruption and rampant bribery. He referred to the proposed military operation in Kurram, arguing that tribal issues should be addressed through jirgas rather than force.
The Maulana said his party believed in the political process and was in favour of solving problems through dialogue. He argued that if issues were resolved through negotiations, it would help create a suitable political environment.
Opposing the use of force, he argued that it would be difficult to resolve the Kurram issue through force.
“We prefer to resolve the issue through a jirga,” he said.
He underlined the need for dialogue and proposed a roadmap for resolving the issue peacefully, warning that military interventions could complicate matters further.
He called for the recently amended Provincial Society Act 2024 to be adopted by all provincial assemblies to ensure its nationwide implementation.
