GM Syed lauded for his struggle for Sindh’s rights

HYDERABAD: The Sindh United Party (SUP) on Friday organised a public meeting in the Sann town of Jamshoro district to commemorate GM Syed in connection with his 121st birth anniversary.

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) central leader Asadullah Bhutto, Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) Secretary General Safdar Abbasi and other leaders attended the gathering. Eulogising Syed, the JI leader said he fought for the rights of Sindh all his life.

He said six new canals had been planned to decrease the water of Sindh, but they would not allow the authorities to execute the plan. Bhutto also lamented frequent abduction cases in Sindh as he demanded that the government ensure peace in the province.

Dr Abbasi said the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had deviated from its ideological path. He maintained that the flow of the river Indus would not be stopped in any case. He said Sindh was asking for its share of water but the Indus River System Authority was not ready to provide it. Sindh was being abused and it had been ruined through corruption, he added.

The GDA leader said the residents of Sindh had also been deprived of education and the situation in the province had become unbearable. Sindh United Party (SUP) President and Save Indus River Movement Convener Syed Zain Shah said it was Syed who got a resolution supporting the 1940 Pakistan Resolution passed by the Sindh Assembly in 1943.

He said Syed believed Pakistan was a country comprising multiple nations. The SUP president said powers that be had created puppet politicians in the country. He also condemned the conviction of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan.

Zain said Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had been celebrating the 26th constitutional amendment, which had turned the judiciary into kangaroo courts. He remarked that the 2024 general elections were a joke and the collective will of the people had been undermined.

He said the current regime was running the county in a manner similar to that of the East India Company. He warned that such a ruling style would be disastrous for the country. The SUP president said they could not accept any scheme that would make Sindh barren. He recalled that when Fatima Jinnah contested the presidential election, GM Syed supported her.
