Exhibition about Karachi’s transformation via migration launched
The Dawood Foundation (TDF) Ghar on Wednesday launched its latest exhibition titled ‘From Borders to Belongings: Karachi’s Journey Through Migration’. This exhibition celebrates how the partition of 1947 reshaped the city’s dynamic spirit and enriched its vibrant diversity.
It brings to life the journeys of communities who made Karachi their home after 1947, exploring the city’s transformation through migration. Visitors will discover stories of resilience and adaptation, learn about the growth of Karachi’s infrastructure, and witness the unique cultural fusion that continues to shape the city’s cultural fabric and identity today.
Through a blend of captivating personal narratives and historical perspectives, the exhibition highlights migration as a driving force behind Karachi’s inspiring journey of transformation and resilience.
TDF Vice Chair Sabrina Dawood said Karachi’s history is woven with stories of resilience, diversity and transformation. “Through this exhibition we honour the journeys of those who shaped this city, and inspire visitors to connect with its rich heritage. I encourage everyone to visit and rediscover Karachi’s remarkable past.”
TDF CEO Favad Soomro said Karachi is a city of stories — of courage, resilience and the extraordinary human spirit. “Through this exhibition we hope to provide a platform to explore and appreciate the profound impact migration has had on Karachi’s identity.”
He encouraged everyone, especially the youth, to visit and immerse themselves in the rich history that continues to shape the city’s vibrant present and promising future.
The entry fee for the exhibition is Rs100, and it is open for the public from 10am to 10pm until Sunday. TDF Ghar is dedicated to fostering cultural, educational and artistic pursuits that intricately showcase the vibrant heritage of Karachi.
This platform provides an all-inclusive safe space, where people can come together to share their culture and connect with their history and forgotten customs that once shaped daily lives. TDF Ghar highlights the city’s heterogeneity while offering a different perspective of the past and providing an alternative explanation of history.
