ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Army, FIA and ISI personnel have been given the mandate to reduce losses and do away with corruption in the Sukkur Electric Supply Company (Sepco).
The Sepco losses stand at 34.91 percent. To this effect, the Power Division, in line with the federal cabinet’s decision, has constituted a distribution Company Support Unit (DSU) for Sepco, mainly to expedite recovery of bills and launch a crackdown on those involved in the theft of electricity.
As per the notification issued on January 9, 2025, DSU will comprise CEO, SEPCO, as director, Sector Commander Civil Armed Forces as Co-Director, Nominee officer of Commissioner Sukkur as Member, nominee officer of DIG Sukkur as Member, officer form FIA in BS-19 as Member, officer from Military Intelligence in BS-18/19 as Member and officer from ISI in BS-18/19 as Member. The DSU will directly report to secretary Power Division.
Apart from improving recovery, the DSU has also been mandated to reduce non-technical losses (theft) through administrative interventions, support in implementation of technical solution, address administrative shortfalls by establishing interface with law enforcement agencies and civil administration. DSU will also recommend laying off under-performing officials and officers on intelligence-based evidence.
