Woman hurt in murder attempt over ‘honour’

LAHORE:A 20-year-old woman was left critically injured after her father, mother, and uncles allegedly attempted to murder her in the name of ‘honour’ for contracting a love marriage in the Hanjarwal area.

According to police, the victim ‘S’ had married a man named Madni of her own choice. This decision, however, enraged her family, who deemed the marriage unacceptable. On Thursday, the woman's uncle lmtiaz along with her father Fayyaz, another uncle Saleem and her mother Musarrat, conspired to kill her. lmtiaz opened fire at the victim leaving her seriously injured. A police team reached the site on information and shifted the injured victim to hospital, where her condition was stated to be critical.

Hanjarwal police arrested the suspects, recovered a 30-bore pistol along with ammunition used in the attack and registered a case against the accused under the charges of attempted murder.

17 die on road in 24 hours

Around 17 people died, whereas 1,462 were injured in 1,379 road accidents in all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. Out of these, 652 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 810 victims with minor injuries were treated at the incident site by Rescue medical teams.

The majority (72%) involved motorbikes.

Furthermore, the analysis showed those 808 drivers, 68 underage drivers, 169 pedestrians, and 502 passengers were among the victims. The statistics show that 252 accidents were reported in Lahore which affected 260 persons placing the provincial capital at top of the list followed by Faisalabad 105 accidents and 104 victims and at third Gujranwala with 76 accidents and 82 victims.

Three mobile thieves arrested

Mughalpura investigation police Friday arrested three members of a mobile snatching and robbery gang during an intelligence-based operation.

The police detained accused identified as ringleader Sohail alias Sohaila and his accomplices Khawar and Masoom for their involvement in numerous robbery and mobile snatching incidents across the city.

The police recovered stolen items worth millions of rupees, mobile phones, cash, a pistol, a motorcycle, and a laptop from the possession of the gagsters. A case has been registered against the accused.
