PSL franchises approve direct player signings
LAHORE: The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to revolutionise its player acquisition strategy for its 10th edition, with franchises unanimously approving a new approach of direct player signings.
This landmark decision, finalised during a meeting between PSL management and franchise representatives, aims to enhance the league’s global appeal and competitive edge. PSL management proposed direct player signings to expedite talent acquisition and secure high-profile international cricketers. The franchises not only welcomed this proposal but have already initiated preliminary discussions with prominent international players.
As the player draft is scheduled for January 11, 2025, the board has been asked for active communications with England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to allow their players to participate in the PSL.
The PSL management is actively engaging with the ECB to obtain permissions for English players’ participation. The decision comes at a critical time when the PSL is competing with established T20 leagues like the Indian Premier League (IPL).
