LAHORE:A moot on ‘Christianity and Christians in Pakistan’ began at the FC College on Tuesday marking the beginning of a three-day series of academic, policy-focused, and faith-based discussions aimed at understanding the multifaceted role of Christians in the country.

As per a press release, several discussions were held and keynotes were presented on the inaugural day. Addressing the conference, 23rd Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mr Justice (retd) Jawwad S. Khawaja while referring to Pakistan during the life of his mentor Chief Justice Cornelius, said ‘That was a beautiful place’.

Justice (retd) Khawaja recounted how the Pakistan of Justice Cornelius’s time was a more mixed, open and engaging time. He then related incidents from Justice Cornelius’s life which exhibited his integrity, judicial acumen and kindness. Earlier, Joseph Cardinal Coutts, Archbishop Emeritus of Karachi and only the second ever Pakistani Cardinal delivered the keynote address at the conference.

The first day of the conference also featured a talk of Christians and education in Pakistan, which was highlighted by a wide-ranging talk by the rector of FC College Dr Jonathan Addleton, where he traced several seminal ways in which Forman has been tied to the history, development, and the developing future of Pakistan. Another panel featured Dr Paul Rollier from France and Dr Dominic Esler from LUMS who spoke about questions of caste and Christian-Muslim relations in urban Pakistan.
