CII head urges users to use VPNs in responsible manner
Allama Dr Raghib Naeemi urges users to register their VPNs to ensure traceability and promote responsible use
ISLAMABAD: Chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) Allama Dr Raghib Naeemi has urged users to register their VPNs to ensure traceability and promote responsible use.
Speaking on a television channel, the CII chairman said that registration of VPNs will ensure that the activity is traced.
Asked if people can access immoral content through registered VPNs, the CII chairman reiterated that they would not be able to gain access. “We will monitor how many people have registered VPNs and how many use them for positive purposes,” he said reiterating that the registered VPNs will be available for use.
Allama Raghib Naeemi in a statement on Friday had said using VPNs to access “immoral or illegal content” was against the Sharia.
Naeemi said Islamic laws allow the government to prevent actions that lead to the “spread of evil and vulgarity”, adding that any platform used for posting content that is controversial, blasphemous or against national integrity “should be stopped immediately”.
