LAHORE: The Pakistan baseball team capped off an undefeated run by storming past hosts UAE with a commanding 12-1 win in the final to claim the Arab Classic title.
After a balanced start in the first two innings, Pierce Khan provided the initial breakthrough for Pakistan with an RBI single that set the momentum. Shortly after, Moosa Nonomiya delivered the tournament’s first home run, helping Pakistan establish a firm 7-1 lead by the seventh inning. The team maintained their control to finish the game 12-1, clinching the championship in style.
Pakistan’s remarkable journey in the four-day tournament saw them secure six straight victories, beating Bangladesh, UAE (twice), India, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka. Muhammad Husain was awarded the MVP of the Tournament.
Before the final, Pakistan sealed their fourth consecutive win with a 17-3 victory over Afghanistan. In this game, Pakistan’s lineup showed formidable strength, with standout performances from Zain, Amar, Younis, Wahid, Sameer, and Iyad, each contributing crucial runs. Zain’s grand slam inside-the-park home run made history for Pakistan, while catcher Syed Muhammad Shah kept Afghanistan’s offensive in check by preventing any steals. The team’s pitching staff, led by Syed Ali Shah with strong relief support from Hasnain Jan and Hussain Imam, effectively shut down Afghan batters.
The defensive lineup, featuring M. Waseem in centre field, Ammar in left, Zain at shortstop, Sameer at first base, and Hussain at third, held firm throughout, displaying excellent teamwork.
Speaking after the team’s semi-final triumph, Syed Fakhar Ali Shah told The News that he had the confidence in Pakistan’s ability to bring home the championship trophy. He praised the team’s dedication and cohesion, which saw them rise as champions in Dubai.
