Cop martyred in attack on Tank office
TANK: A police constable martyred while an attacker sustained injuries when gunmen attacked the District Accounts Office in Tank on Thursday.
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Nawaz, armed men suddenly attacked the District Accounts Office of Upper South Waziristan in Tank and opened indiscriminate fire inside the office.
He said the police promptly returned the fire. During the exchange of gunfire, a cop from Upper South Waziristan sustained injuries and later embraced martyrdom.One of the attackers was also severely injured in the exchange of fire.
Soon after the incident, a heavy contingent of police rushed to the spot but the armed men riding motorcycles had already fled the scene.The attackers also took their injured accomplice along with them without being challenged.Later, the police took control of the District Accounts Office of South Waziristan and cordoned off the area and collected evidence from the crime scene.
Meanwhile, District Headquarters Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Nisar Burki, said that the post-mortem of the martyred constable was underway, adding that all hospital staff had been put on high alert owing to the attacks being staged by the armed groups in the area.
