LAHORE: The National Age Group Swimming Championships saw young athletes shattering more national records here at the SBP pool Sunday. The event on Sunday saw Punjab dominating the boys’ competition while Sindh led the girls’ events. Multiple national records fell across various age groups.
In the boys’ 16 and under category, Syed M. Daniyal Hatim of Army stole the show, breaking three national records in a single day. Hatim clocked 58.04 seconds in 100m butterfly, 25.60 seconds in 50m butterfly and 24.49 seconds in 50m freestyle.His stellar performance earned him the Best Swimmer title with five gold medals.
The girls’ events saw equally impressive performances. Hareem Malik of Sindh set new national benchmarks in the 16 and under category, with record-breaking swims in 200m Individual Medley (2:43.73) and 100m Breaststroke (1:21.50). Malik’s dominant performance secured her the Best Swimmer award with five gold medals.
Punjab emerged victorious in the boys’ overall standings, clinching 14 gold, 11 silver, and 4 bronze medals. They were closely followed by Sindh with 14 gold, 6 silver, and 4 bronze medals. The Army team impressed with 5 gold medals, all won by Hatim.
In the girls’ competition Sindh took top honours with 13 gold, 1 silver, and 5 bronze medals. Punjab secured second place with 11 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals, while Navy rounded out the top three with 2 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals.
Individual brilliance was on display across all age groups. In the boys’ 14 and under category, Mikail Azfar Mir of Sindh claimed the Best Swimmer title with five gold medals, including new national records in 50m Freestyle and 100m Breaststroke. For the girls in the same age group, Shahzana Shahid of Punjab dominated with five gold medals.
Mustafa Maqbool of Sindh was named Best Swimmer in the boys’ 10 and under category, securing four gold medals with four new national records. In the girls’ 12 and under group, Zoya Omair Hafiz of Sindh impressed with five gold medals and three new national records.
