Murad and Mahoor clinch National Badminton titles
LAHORE: Murad Ali and Mahoor Shahzad become male and female national champions of singles in the 61st National Badminton Championships.
In the Men’s double Raja Muhammad Hasnain and Raja Zulqarnain Haider won the title. In Women Doubles Saima Waqas & Ammarah Ishtiaq and in mixed doubles M Ali Larosh & Zubaira Islam won the finals of the championships.
In a closely contested men’s singles final, Murad Ali from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa emerged victorious, defeating Anjum Bashir of the Army in two sets, 21-19 and 21-18. Mahoor Shahzad, representing Wapda, secured the women’s singles title by overcoming her teammate Ghazala Siddique in a hard-fought match, winning 21-16 and 22-20.
The doubles events also produced exciting results. In the men’s doubles, Raja Muhammad Hasnain and Raja Zulqarnain Haider from the Army claimed the championship, defeating Murad Ali and Azeem Sarwar of Wapda in straight sets, 21-11 and 21-13.
The women’s doubles title went to Saima Waqas and Ammarah Ishtiaq, representing Wapda and the Army, respectively. They overcame Palwasha Bashir and Ghazala Siddique in a three-set thriller, winning 10-21, 21-17, and 21-16. In the mixed doubles, M Ali Larosh of Wapda and Zubaira Islam of SNGPL emerged as champions, defeating Zunain Javed and Palwasha Bashir in a closely contested match, 21-19 and 21-19.
